Summary of review and consultation process
Competenz is in the process of reviewing a number of qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. After wide consultation, new qualification structures have been endorsed by the industry, and these require that unit standards 2824 and 12299 should both be suitable for off-job learning and assessment.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standard 2824 is replaced by two new standards, 21911 covering knowledge of safety on engineering work sites, and 21912 covering the application of the knowledge in real work situations.
· Unit standard 21913 replaced 12299. The movable platform element has been removed, and all remaining elements have been re-written to reflect new Approved Codes of Practice.
Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2008.
