The Joinery Industry Training Organisation has decided that the unit standards listed above, which were registered in August 1995, November 1996, February and October 1997, March 1998, July and December 1999, should have their period of registration extended. The unit standards in bold have also been revised.
Feedback from industry, training providers and other stakeholders has indicated that these unit standards reflect current workplace practices and are still relevant to industry in their present format, and therefore no changes are required at this time.
The review of these unit standards is planned to take place during 2007.

Summary of review and consultation process
Feedback from industry, training providers, and moderators indicated that some unit standards required updating to reflect current industry practices and to make minor amendments to content to allow for consistency of assessment. Unit standards were also due for review as they had reached their expiry date.
Panels of industry representation were convened. Changes were agreed and incorporated. Updated unit standards were sent out to all stakeholders for feedback. Individual industry people or training providers with specific expertise were also consulted on details relevant to their area of expertise.
The Joinery ITO is now satisfied that the views of all stakeholders have been taken into consideration for the new versions of these unit standards.
Unit standards in domain General Glass and Glazing (other than unit standard 19605) and unit standards 15755 and 15756 are due to expire in December 2005, and their review will commence in mid 2005.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standard 19605 is expanded to include the requirements for the joinery industry as well as the glass and glazing industry.
· Special notes for unit standard 10173 are updated to assist interpretation.
· Unit 8611 has element 3 deleted as it is no longer a requirement for industry, and credits have been reduced from 8 to 6.
· Unit standard 17136 is clarified by amendment to the title to reflect the elements.
· Element 2 in unit standard 2538 has changed from practical to theory as this was found to be a barrier to completion for some candidates. Special notes have also been added around definitions and legislation to assist interpretation.
· The title of unit standard 2522 has changed, and the elements and performance criteria have been amended to match, as previously the practical elements caused a barrier to completion for some trainees who did not have the opportunity for practical assessment in their workplace.
· Unit standard 2553 has special note 4 deleted as knowledge of New Zealand standards is not a requirement for this unit standard.
· Unit standard 2545 is simplified with changes to element 1 to reflect the actual requirements for trainees and New Zealand standards have been added to the special notes.
· Unit standard 2547 has increased in credits from 3 to 4 to reflect the time taken to achieve competency.
·
Unit
2551 was replaced by 17138 in an earlier review.
·
Reference
to mass and volume in unit 2549 is deleted as this is not a requirement for the
industry.
· New unit standard 21811 covers knowledge of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines for laminate fabrication.
· New unit standard 21812 covers use of narrow belt and edge sanders.
