The Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito) has revised the qualification listed above that was registered in March 2002.

Reason for the revision
In 2004 Sfrito developed a new unit standard in planning and leading a recreation activity. This unit standard is better suited for this introductory level qualification than the sport teaching and coaching unit standard. Therefore, unit standard 16788 has been removed from the qualification and unit standard 21414 has been added.
As part of the consultation with industry when developing unit standard 21414 it was considered whether or not it was appropriate that the recreation-based unit standard replace 16788 in the national certificate. All responses received were positive towards this change so as to make the qualification more appropriate for people working in the community recreation sector.

Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for people to complete version 1 is 31 December 2007.
