Revision of Materials Processing qualifications

 

National Certificate in Materials Processing (Level 1) with strands in General, Plastics Injection Moulding, Plastics Extrusion, Plastics Blow Moulding, Plastics Thermoforming, Plastics Blown Film Extrusion, Plastics Film Conversion, Plastics Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding, Plastics Rotational Moulding, Plastics Film Slitting, Expanded Polystyrene Moulding, Glass Containers, and Paint Manufacturing [Ref: 1072]

 

National Certificate in Materials Processing (Level 2) with strands in General, Plastics Injection Moulding, Plastics Extrusion, Plastics Blow Moulding, Plastics Pressure Thermoforming, Plastics Vacuum Thermoforming, Plastics Blown Film Extrusion, Plastics Film Conversion, Plastics Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding, Plastics Rotational Moulding, Expanded Polystyrene Moulding, Polystyrene Pre-expansion, Glass Containers, and Paint Manufacturing [Ref: 1073]

 

The Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation has revised the qualifications listed above that were registered in January 2004.

 

Date new versions published                                                                    June 2005

 

The review of these qualifications is planned to take place in 2008.

 

Reason for the revision

 

Unit standards were recently registered in the new subfield Pharmaceutical and Allied Products.  In order that this sector of the materials processing industries may participate in this qualification, this subfield has now been added to the qualifications.

 

In addition, Mechanical Engineering unit standards and classifications required updating.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

National Certificate in Materials Processing (Level 1)

 

Changes to structure and content

·      The subfield Pharmaceutical and Allied Products has been added to the General Strand – Elective section.

·      The lapsed domain Fluid Power was replaced by new domains Fluid Power – Hydraulics and Fluid Power – Pneumatics in the Core Elective section.

·      Mechanical Engineering unit standards 2824, 4432, and 4433 updated.

·      Credits for unit standard 18768 increased from 3 to 4.

 

For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for standards in the lapsed classification may continue to use those credits to meet the qualification requirements.

Transition Arrangements

 

All existing candidates may complete the version of the qualification they have begun or transfer their existing achievements to the current version.
