The New Zealand Sports Turf Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in December 1999.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The unit standards were reviewed to incorporate current industry practice and to more accurately recognise areas of specialisation within the industry.  The review was undertaken in consultation with providers (New Zealand Sports Turf Institute and Otago Polytechnic) and key industry stakeholders.  The draft reviewed unit standards were widely circulated seeking comment.  There is a continuing need for these units to provide learners with an overview of maintenance of specific sports turf areas.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Special notes have been added to provide guidance on references

·        Range statements have been reviewed with items added or deleted in response to industry feedback

·        Performance criteria have been reviewed and adjusted where required

·        New element added to both unit standards which specifies playing surface requirements in terms of dimensions and performance

·        In 17211 the outfield area has been removed to allow for specialisation in the maintenance of cricket blocks required by industry

·        A new unit standard has been developed for knowledge of a sportsfield including the maintenance of cricket outfield areas.
