The New Zealand Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation (NZRT&LITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in May 1999, in February, April, September, and November 2000, and in February 2001.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review was initiated as part of the normal maintenance of unit standards. Most of the unit standards were scheduled to expire in December 2004. The unit standards were reviewed by industry and Land Transport New Zealand.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

Definitions and special notes were standardised for consistency between these unit standards and recently reviewed unit standards.  Editorial changes were made to improve their readability, to clarify and update performance requirements to fit with recent technological improvements in vehicles and equipment, to remove duplication with related unit standards, and to ensure a common style.

 

Major changes include:

·        simplified entry requirements for unit standards 15166, 15947, 1756, 1759, 1760, 1761, and 1762;

·        expanded performance requirements for pre-start checks and making a vehicle ready for road use in 15158;

·        in 1739, removal of parking requirements to maintain focus on loading, unloading and the transport, and to avoid duplication with 16718.  Accordingly, the number of credits has been reduced from 8 to 5;

·        the levels have been reduced from 4 to 3 for unit standards 1732, 15166, and 1759.

 

Impact on existing provider accreditations

 

None.

 

Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

 

The involvement of Land Transport New Zealand in accrediting providers is no longer required for unit standards 1738, 1759, 15166, and 15947.  The AMAP has been amended accordingly.

 

Impact on existing qualifications

 

The following NZRT&L ITO qualifications are affected by the outcome of this review and will be revised/reviewed to take account of the changes in 2005.
