Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards have been thoroughly reviewed and restructured at the request of the Rafting industry.  These unit standards are a key part of the Raft Guide training and qualification pathway that is legislated under the Maritime Safety Authority Rule, Part 80.  The rafting industry, providers and the New Zealand Rafting Association have all had input into this review.

Main changes resulting from the review

Unit standard 485 has been reviewed to be in line with the other experiential unit standards in Outdoor Recreation and has been developed for school groups or people who are experiencing recreational rafting.

Unit standard 16251 has been replaced by unit standard 21285, its level has decreased from 6 to 5 and its credits have increased from 10 to 15.

The other five rafting unit standards have been designated as category D (expiring) and a new series of rafting unit standards registered.  The industry has requested that all new unit standards be given new identification numbers so there is a clear distinction between the old and the new unit standards.  Sfrito manages the National Raft Guide Award register and will be able to assist anyone who is currently working towards the discontinued unit standards.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2006.
