Summary of review and consultation process

The review was carried out by the ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation in conjunction with the Security Industry Training Advisory Group.  The reviewed unit standards reflect the experience of several years training and assessment.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards:

·        Unit 6519, Demonstrate knowledge of protective security - the special notes were updated and references to security guard were changed to security officer along with other minor changes to improve assessability.  The credit value for the unit standard was increased from 5 to 7 to better reflect the time needed to learn, practise, and assess the requirements of the unit standard.  A special note was added to indicate that this unit standard covers knowledge previously covered by unit standard 17233.

·        Unit 6520, Demonstrate knowledge of security related law, was replaced by a new unit standard, 21109, to reflect current industry requirements.

·        Unit 6523, Respond to emergencies and critical situations as a security operator - the title was changed to: Respond to emergencies and critical situations as a security officer, and other references to security operator were changed.  The special notes, elements, and performance criteria were updated to reflect current industry requirements, to highlight some specific areas, and to improve assessability.  The credit value for the unit standard was increased from 4 to 6 to reflect the additional time needed to learn, practise, and assess the increased requirements of the unit standard.

·        Unit 17233, Demonstrate knowledge of security tradecraft, was designated as expiring as a more up to date treatment had been included in unit standards 6519, 21107, and 21110.

·        Six new unit standards were registered: 21105-21110.

Unit standards categorised as category C and D expire at the end of December 2008.
