Review of Hide Processing qualification

National Certificate in Hide Processing (Level 2) [Ref: 0717]

The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in October 2004.

Date new version published                        May 2005

The review of this qualification is planned to take place in December 2009

This qualification has been reviewed because of the review of the hide processing unit standards, the development of new hide processing unit standards, and the need to meet the requirements of new companies that have decided to undertake NQF qualifications.

A series of meetings with representatives, assessors and providers within the leather industry has resulted in a major change to the hide processing qualification.  The core compulsory section has been amended to reflect generic skills needed by new employees, and the elective section broadened to reflect the skills needed within new and existing participating companies.

The qualification recognises both core and specialist knowledge and skills required to work safely and productively in a range of functions within the hide processing sector of the leather industry.
