Date new versions published November 2005
Planned review date March 2008
Summary of review and consultation process
This review is part of the planned cycle of review that takes place after the first year of use of the achievement standards.
· Initial feedback and comments were collated from teachers/schools, moderators, examiners, markers, material developers, and other stakeholders.
· This information was reviewed by a subject expert panel and recommendations were made in March 2005.
· The recommendations were sent out for full consultation to secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and others in the education sector, in April/May 2005.
· Feedback from this full consultation has informed the changes described below.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process resulted in the following modifications to the achievement standards.
This achievement standard has been designated as expiring because of overlap with AS90608, Drama 3.2.
Title
· The title has been changed to 'Interpret scripted text and integrate drama techniques in solo or paired performance'.
· 'Paired performance' has been added to provide wider opportunity within education programmes for the requirements of the achievement standard to be demonstrated.
Introductory Statement
This has been changed to reflect the title change.
Credits
The credit value has been increased from three to five credits. The increased credits reflect more accurately the depth and range of the preparation and the process required.
Achievement Criteria
The achievement criteria have been reworded to clarify the achievement standard. The first achievement criterion now relates to interpreting scripted text and selecting techniques, and the second achievement criterion relates to integrating the techniques to communicate the text, including the 'solo or paired performance' aspect from the new title.
Explanatory Notes
· Explanatory Note 2 has been amended to include aspects of Explanatory Notes 3, 4, and 6 of Version 1 of the achievement standard.
· The Explanatory Notes relating to script have been re-ordered for clarity.
· Explanatory Notes 4 and 5 of Version 2 of the achievement standard are new and have been added to clarify the evidence required to support the student's interpretation.
· Explanatory Note 6 of Version 2 is new and has been added to define the terms used.
Title
· The title has been changed to 'Devise, script and perform drama for solo or paired performance' to clarify that the focus of this achievement standard at Level 3 is on devising skills rather than performance skills. The new title acknowledges the imperatives of theatre making.
· 'Paired performance' has been added to provide wider opportunity within education programmes for the requirements of the achievement standard to be demonstrated.
Introductory Statement
This has been changed to reflect the title change.
Achievement Criteria
· The first achievement criterion has been changed to 'Devise and script' to provide greater focus on devising and scripting as drama processes.
· The second achievement criterion has been changed to emphasise the realisation of intention through performance.
Explanatory Notes
· A new Explanatory Note 2 has been added to clarify evidence collection.
· A new Explanatory Note 3 has been added to define terms used.
· Explanatory Note 8 has been reworked into a new Explanatory Note 4, listing some examples of devised work.
· A new Explanatory Note 5 has been added to clarify conventions.
Title
The title has been changed to 'Demonstrate knowledge of theatre form or period by analysing and interpreting two texts'.
Introductory Statement
This has been changed to reflect the title change.
Achievement Criteria
The two achievement criteria of Version 1 of the achievement standard have been collapsed into a single achievement criterion to reflect the higher level thinking about scripted texts required at Level 3.
Explanatory Notes
· A new Explanatory Note 2 has been added to define terms used.
· Explanatory Note 2 has been replaced by Explanatory Note 3 to clarify that the scripted texts be from different drama/theatre forms or periods, to reflect the requirements of the curriculum.
· Explanatory Notes 3 and 4 have been removed as a result of the change to the achievement criteria.
· Explanatory Note 5 has been removed as this was about assessment procedure.
Title
The title has been changed to 'Research and carry out a performance or technical/production role in a significant production'.
Introductory Statement
This has been changed to reflect the title change.
Achievement Criteria
· The first achievement criterion has been amended to focus on and better differentiate the level of skill and knowledge required for this achievement standard.
· The order of the second and third achievement criteria has been reversed to clarify the process.
· 'Develop' has been removed from the fourth achievement criterion to focus on the key outcome being ability to sustain performance or the role.
Explanatory Notes
· A new Explanatory Note 2 has been added to define the terms used.
· Other Explanatory Notes have been amended to provide clarity.
Title
The title has been changed to 'Analyse drama processes in a new context and reflect critically on drama performance' in order to focus on the level of thinking required.
Introductory Statement
This has been changed to reflect the title change.
Achievement Criteria
· The first two achievement criteria have been combined to focus on the sophistication of the response required, to clarify terminology, and to provide clear progression from AS90304, Drama 2.6.
· 'Processes' has been removed from the second achievement criterion.
Explanatory Notes
Explanatory Note 3 has been added to, to define other terms used.
AS90607, categorised as category D, expires at the end of December 2006.
