The Ministry of Education and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have completed a revision of the achievement standard listed above that was registered in November 2003.
Registration date 7 November 2003 (unchanged)
Date new versions published November 2005
Planned review date March 2006 (unchanged)
Summary of revision and consultation process
In light of feedback received from examiners and teachers, the proposed change to the assessment mode of this standard - from externally assessed to internally assessed - was considered as part of the planned cycle of review that takes place annually.
· Initial feedback and comments about the proposed change were collated from teachers/schools, moderators, examiners, markers, material developers, and other stakeholders.
· This information was reviewed by a subject expert panel and recommendations were made in March 2005.
· The recommendation was sent out for full consultation to secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and others in the education sector, in April/May 2005.
The recommended change to the assessment mode from external to internal was supported in feedback from the consultation. This change will allow a fuller range of evidence to be assessed against the standard than has been possible in the external assessment mode.
The Board of NZQA approved the proposal that the assessment mode for AS90050 be changed from external to internal.
Main changes resulting from the revision
AS90050 , Technology 1.6 and MAS90050 have been published as new versions and will be internally assessed from 2006 onwards.
