Summary of review and consultation process
Selected panels of industry experts met during 2004 to review the unit standards in theExtractive Industries Management, Underground Extraction, and Surface Extraction domains, and to make the required amendments to bring them up-to-date. Consultation took place with other industry training organisations that were affected by this review. The reviewers analysed each unit standard in turn for currency of industry practice, clarity of expression, assessability of content, eliminating restrictions to achievement, updating references, evaluating credit value, and fitness for purpose. Where major changes occurred in a unit standard, drafts were evaluated following the meeting.
Submissions from industry were taken into account during the review process and other stakeholders were contacted to review drafts.
The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation plans to continue to review the Underground Extraction, Surface Extraction and Extractive Industries Management domains in 2005. These unit standards were identified by industry, as being most in need of updating.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standard 17698 has been replaced with unit standards 21630-21633.
· Unit standard 17746 has been replaced by unit standard 21629
· Technical content has been updated.
· Legislation and regulations have been updated.
· The level and credit value of unit standard 17743 has been increased to reflect the level of achievement and the time spent in learning and assessment.
· The credit value of unit standards 15669, 15670, 17693, 17979, 17980, 17984, and 17986 has increased to reflect the time spent in learning and assessment.
· Some changes to performance criteria, elements, and titles have been made.
· Entry information on unit standards 16696 and 16697 has been added.
· Entry information on unit standards 17697, 17699, and 17700 has been updated to include 21152, which replaced 8890 in January 2005.
· The context of 'sand' has been removed from unit standards 17979, 17980, 17982, 17984-17986,17989,17991, and17992 to make these unit standards more generic and therefore available in a greater range of contexts.
· Unit standards 17979, 17980, 17982, 17984, 17985, 17986, 17989, and 17991 have been moved from the Surface Extraction domain to the Extractive Industries Management domain.
Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2006.
