Review of Airport Operations qualification
National Diploma in Airport Operations (Level 5) [Ref: 0514]
The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in August 1998.
Date new version published October 2005
The National Diploma in Airport Operations (Level 5) was reviewed to improve flexibility of the structure and therefore encourage uptake of the qualification. Industry had indicated that the current compulsory structure was too restrictive and many candidates were unable to complete all of the required unit standards due to their role or the size of the airport in which they were employed.
An advisory group met in mid 2004 to discuss the issues that inhibited the uptake of the qualification and discuss options for a structure that would allow senior staff in airports of any size in New Zealand to be able to complete its requirements. Follow up discussions with several airports resulted in a draft qualification being circulated to wider industry for feedback. The final draft was presented for final comment at the Aviation Industry Association - Airports Division Annual General Meeting and then endorsed by the ATTTO Operations Support Advisory Group.
