Summary of review and consultation process

 

The NZITO - Meat Processing Advisory Group convened a meeting in November 2004 in Auckland to review the Smallgoods unit standards, which were approaching their review date.  This meeting was attended by training staff from the key meat processing organisations, independent trainers and assessors, and industry providers.

 

The review determined that a number of currently registered unit standards required updating to reflect current work practices and legislative requirements.  Changes were made, mainly to performance criteria, and a new element on knife use was added to some unit standards.  All unit standards incorporated a new element and associated performance criteria on statutory hygiene and safety requirements.

 

The suggested changes were promulgated through the wider provider and industry networks for final feedback.  The feedback from provider and industry networks was taken into consideration before final changes were approved by the Meat Processing Advisory Group for inclusion.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Special notes have been updated to reflect legislative changes and to update definitions.

·        All unit standards have been amended to incorporate a new element and associated performance criteria on statutory hygiene and safety requirements.

·        Unit standards 18524, 18528, and 18532 have been amended to include an element on knife use.

·        Unit standard 18517 now has a recommended prerequisite - 18526.

·        Purpose statements have been updated to reflect the addition of the new elements.
