Summary of review and consultation process
Selected panels of industry experts met during 2005 to continue the review of the unit standards in theExtractive Industries subfield. Feedback from industry and workplace assessors indicated the need for a review of these unit standards. The reviewers analysed each unit standard in turn for currency of industry practice, clarity of expression, assessability of content, eliminating restrictions to achievement, updating references, evaluating levels and credit values, and fitness for purpose. Submissions from industry were taken into account during the review process and other stakeholders were contacted to review drafts.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standards 8896, 14869, 15671, 17987, and 18704 have been replaced with unit standards 22058, 22059, 22056, 22060, and 22057.
· Prerequisite unit standards have been introduced into unit standards 7160, 7164, 7165, and 13358.
· Technical content has been updated.
· Legislation and regulations have been updated.
· Unit standard 7161 has been designated expiring.
· The level and credit value of unit standards 7165, 8896, and 15660 have been increased to reflect the greater level of achievement and the time spent in learning and assessment than was first estimated.
· The credit value in unit standards 7160, 7164, 15671, and 17990 has increased to reflect the time spent in learning and assessment.
· In unit standard 22057 (replacement standard for 18704), entry information has been updated to include 7146.
· Sand has been removed from the title, elements, and performance criteria of unit standards 17981, 17987, 17990, and 17993 to make these unit standards more generic and therefore available in a greater range of contexts.
· Unit standards 15660 and 18704 have been extended to include tunnels.
· Unit standards 7160, 7164, and 7165 have amended titles to include the option of tunnels.
Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2007.
