The New Zealand Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation Inc (HITO) has completed a revision of the qualifications listed above that were registered in September 1995, December 1997, and February 1997.
Date new versions published September 2005
The review of these qualifications is planned to take place in 2007.
The qualifications advisory committee of HITO conducted consultation in 2003 regarding the qualifications listed above and identified a revision that would be required when a new hairdressing specific unit standard was registered. The new unit standard (20929) has now been registered. New versions of the qualifications have been issued to remove unit standard 62 and to include unit standard 20929. A special note relating to prerequisite unit standards was also removed as it was deemed redundant.
Main changes resulting from the revision
National Certificate in Hairdressing with strands in Hairdressing Practice and Barbering Practice [Ref: 0022]
· Unit standard 62 removed.
· Unit standard 20929 included.
· Total credits for this qualification increased to 334 or 402 (depending on strand).
· Special note removed.
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the National Certificate in Hairdressing with strands in Hairdressing Practice and Barbering Practice [Ref: 0022] may either complete those versions or transfer to version 10. The last date for award of version 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the qualification is December 2008.
National Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) [Ref: 0268]
· Unit standard 62 removed.
· Unit standard 20929 included.
· Total credits for this qualification increased to 75.
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 2, 3, and 4 of the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) [Ref: 0268] may either complete those versions or transfer to version 5. The last date for award of version 2, 3, and 4 of the qualification is December 2007.
National Certificate in Barbering [Ref: 0418]
· Unit standard 62 removed.
· Unit standard 20929 included.
· Total credits for this qualification increased to 154.
· Special note removed.
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 4, 5, and 6 of the National Certificate in Barbering [Ref: 0418] may either complete those versions or transfer to version 7. The last date for award of version 4 is December 2006 and the last date for award of versions 5 and 6 of the qualification is December 2008.
Transition for all qualifications
For the purposes of these qualifications people who have gained credit for the following standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard.
