The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation (Equine ITO) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in August 1999 and November 2000 respectively.
Date new versions published September 2005
These qualifications were reviewed following industry evaluations, which identified changing workplace roles, skills, and knowledge required of employees within the racing industry. Changes were consequently made to the qualifications to ensure they continued to meet the needs of industry.
The racecourse management qualification was reviewed following discussions among Peter Munro (NZ Sports Turf Advisor), Gary Foskett (Secretary NZ Racecourse Managers Guild), Dudley Brown (CEO Equine ITO), and trainees. The review identified the skills and knowledge needed to ensure the relevance of the qualification. The proposed changes and additions were approved at the Racecourse Managers' Guild annual general meeting in July 2004.
The stable management qualification was reviewed by a panel, which included input from CEO Equine ITO, tutors, and trainees. The review considered the skills, knowledge, and tasks relevant to stable forepersons and whether the content of the qualification continued to reflect the requirements of the industry. In light of feedback received, some changes were made.
The changes to both qualifications were endorsed at the Equine ITO Board's meeting in December 2004.
Main changes resulting from the review
The changing workplace roles and responsibilities were particularly evidenced within Racecourse Management, and subsequently additional unit standards were included to align these changing needs within industry.
