Date new versions published                                                      September 2005

These qualifications have been reviewed as part of the Māori Qualifications Services' review cycle of qualifications in Field Māori.

Main changes resulting from the review

The National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 0722] has been replaced by the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 5) [Ref: 1196], and the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 1197].  The Whakaruruhau Te Reo Māori felt that, by replacing the registered qualification with a Level 5 and a Level 6 qualification, candidates could be recognised for their skills and knowledge through the Level 5 qualification, and could then choose to progress to the Level 6 qualification.  The workload and time taken to complete each qualification is less than that required to complete the replaced qualification.

Transition

These qualifications replaced the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 0722].  Programmes leading to award of the replacement qualifications are being introduced from 2006.  People currently working towards the replaced National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 0722] may complete that qualification, or transfer to the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 5) [Ref: 1196] or to the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 1197], as appropriate.  The last date for award of the National Diploma in Reo Māori (Level 6) [Ref: 0722] is 31 December 2008.

It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition.  However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to:
