Review of Fibrous Plaster unit standards

The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in August 2000.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

These unit standards were reviewed as part of Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation's scheduled review process for the National Certificate in Fibrous Plaster (Installation) with an optional Specialist strand [Ref: 0273], and the National Certificate in Fibrous Plaster (Manufacture) with optional strands in Casting Models, Casting Sheets, and Specialist Panels [Ref: 0274].  An industry working party consisting of representatives from the Plaster Board industry was gathered, and the unit standards were reviewed by this party.  The resulting recommended changes were incorporated into the unit standards.  These were then returned to the industry representatives for feedback, which was duly incorporated into the final reviewed unit standards.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Unit standards at Level 2 or 3 (4316-4318, 4322-4323, 4325, 4350-4353, 4355, 6128, 17583) have had alterations made to the special notes (removal of one special note) to reflect the fact that at these levels candidates are not required to be working at the level of competent Industry Practice (changed from Current Trade Practice).

·        The special note exempting candidates from other unit standards for qualification purposes (4323, 4325, 4350-4353, 6128-6133, 17584) has been removed to reflect alterations to the qualification containing these unit standards.

·        A 'Demonstrate knowledge of' element has been added to unit standards 4349, 6126, 6131, 6133 and 17584, with a subsequent credit increase of 2 for all except 6131 and 6133.  The credit level for 6131 and 6133 has not been increased, as the credits already allocated to these unit standards are considered appropriate.

·        All unit standards have had references to supervisors in the 'complete documentation and clean up' element changed to 'in accordance with site practice' to reflect the fact that at Level 4 candidates are expected to be able to work unsupervised.

·        Small alterations have been made to special notes, range statements, and performance criteria to correct typographical errors and improve consistency.
