The Fire and Rescue Services Industry Training Organisation (FRSITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.  The unit standards in bold were also reclassified.

Date new versions published                        August 2006

Planned review date                        December 2010

Summary of review and consultation process

The main reason for the review was that the unit standards in these domains were due for review in December 2005.  As a result of the feedback received by assessors, moderators, providers/stakeholders and industry sectors, the unit standards have been brought into line with current industry standards and practice, needs, terminology, format, references, and to reflect some minor changes that had occurred.

A memorandum informing all stakeholders of the review, the scope of the unit standards to be reviewed, and inviting nominations for participation in the process was publicised widely (sent to all individual organisations held on the FRSITO database as well as posted on the FRSITO website) on 4th September 2005.  From the nominations received, a team of 18 members was formed with four of these being internal FRSITO representatives.  Each external member also formed a consultative network to assist with wide feedback on the review and revision process and outcomes.  The external members were representative of Providers, Employers, Local Bodies, Local Bodies (Rural), Department of Conservation, the Fire Services, Airports and Civil Defence.

The first meeting of the Review Group was held on 13th October 2005 and the second meeting on 3rd November 2005.  After each of the meetings the unit standards were circulated and feedback obtained.  The reviewed unit standards now reflect all the comments obtained from the group (including their networks) and all members are in agreement with the content of the final version of the unit standards submitted with this report.

Unit standard 20540 was part of this review, however due to issues with the current reference material for this unit standard, it was agreed that this unit standard would be registered at a later date once the issues were resolved.

Main changes resulting from the review

Changes to unit standards

The review process resulted in the following changes to unit standards:

·        Unit standard 16811 is to expire on 31 December 2007 and will not be replaced

·        Unit standards 16939,16940, 16941, and 16942 have been moved from the Workplace Emergency Risk Management domain to the Fire and Rescue Services - Structural and Industrial domain

·        The special notes have been reordered with references to legislation taking priority

·        References in the special notes have been updated accordingly

·        Some jargon in the special notes has been either removed or substituted with commonly-used industry terminology

·        The titles of unit standards 16799, 16803, 16808, and 16809 have been modified to more accurately reflect the purpose of the unit standards

·        The levels and credits of some unit standards have been modified to better reflect the level descriptors, and the content of the unit standards.

Unit standard 16811 categorised as category D, expires at the end of December 2007.
