Summary of review and consultation process
The qualification was reviewed during 2006 in conjunction with the Security Industry Training Advisory Board (SITAB), security industry training providers and industry representatives following a major review of the security unit standards during 2004, 2005, and 2006.
The review of this qualification reflects the experience of several years of training, assessment, and industry experience of stakeholders. The changes to the qualification have also taken into account the anticipated future skill requirements of the industry.

National Certificate in Security with strands in Court Security, Event Security, Mobile Patrol, Noise Control, Retail Security, Secure Transport, and Site Security [Ref: 0227]
· unit standards 57, 1277, 1299, 6520, 6527, 6532, 8618, 16800, 17233, and 17823 were replaced. See table below for details
· unit standards 62, 1296, and 6529 were removed
· unit standards 20595, 20596, and 21738 were included in the compulsory section
· unit standards 3461, 3462, 3466, and 3469 were removed from the mobile patrol strand
· levels, credits and titles have been updated in accordance with the unit standard review
· the Venue Security strand was renamed to Event Security
· the Personal Protection strand and unit standard 6530 were removed
· two new strands, Court Security and Noise Control, were added. Unit standards 22429 and 22431 were added to the Court Security strand, and unit standard 22430 was added to Noise Control strand
· unit standard 6521 was moved to the Site Security strand
· qualification credit value was increased from 91-102 to 121-130 at level 3 or 4 as appropriate.
Transition
People currently working towards version 4 of the qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date to meet the requirements of version 4 is 31 December 2008.
For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 5 of the qualification.
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation at the address below.
