Revision of Mediation qualification

National Certificatein Mediation (Level 5) [Ref: 0470]

The Public Sector Training Organisation (PSTO) has revised the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                        August 2006

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2010.

Reason for the revision

Industry contacted PSTO and advised that the current qualification was not suitable in its current form.  The intention for this qualification was for candidates to gain all the unit standards in the Mediation domain (12833-12841), which currently total 58 credits.  Gathering evidence for the two extra credits to make up the 60 credit requirement does not occur naturally as part of a candidate's work.  The credit value has subsequently been decreased.

Main changes resulting from the revision

·               The minimum total credits have been decreased from 60 to 58.

·               All unit standards are now compulsory.

·               The elective components have been removed from the qualification.  Unit standards 12838 and 12841 have been moved into the compulsory section.

·               The elective domains of Business Law and Interpersonal Communications have been removed.

Transition

People currently working towards version 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to version 4.  The last date for the award of version 3 is December 2007.

Candidates who feel they have been disadvantaged by these transition arrangements should contact PSTO at the address below.
