Review of Electricity Supply qualification

 

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Thermal Plant Operator) (Level 4) with strands in Thermal Operations, Combined Cycle Operations, and Co-generation Operations [Ref: 0894]

 

The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has completed a review of the qualification listed above.

 

Date new version published                        August 2006

 

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2010.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The above qualification was reviewed as part of a larger review and reclassification of the Electricity Supply subfield.  Changes have been made to better reflect industry needs for achievable qualifications that support learning and progression, and to meet the changing needs of the electricity supply industry.  The qualification has been issued as version 2.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

Changes to structure and content

·               Title change.

·               Credit requirements were increased from 92-114 to 101-132.

·               Unit standards 12387, 12390, 19481, 14700 and 22876 were added to the compulsory section.

·               Unit standard 17411 was moved from the core compulsory section and added to the Thermal Operations strand compulsory section, and also the Combined Cycle Operations strand elective section.

·               Unit standards 17401, 17403, 17408 and 17414 were moved from the core compulsory section and added to the Thermal Operations strand elective section, 17414 was also added to the Combined Cycle Operations strand compulsory section, and 17401, 17403 and 17408 were also added to the Combined Cycle Operations strand elective section.

·               Unit standard 17413 was removed from the core compulsory section and is no longer in the qualification.

·               Unit standards 2670 and 2683 were removed from the Thermal Operations strand elective section and are no longer in the qualification.

·               Unit standards 20187, 20188 and 22878 were added to the Thermal Operations strand elective section.

·               Unit standards 22875, 22877, 22879 and 18422 were added to the Combined Cycle Operations strand compulsory section.

·               Unit standards 17419, 17420 and 17421 were removed from the Combined Cycle Operations strand compulsory section.

·               Unit standard 22878 was added to the Combined Cycle Operations strand elective section.

·               Unit standards 17418, 17422, 17423, 17424, 17425, 2670, 2683, and 3053 were removed from the Combined Cycle Operations strand elective section and 2670, 2683, and 3053 are no longer offered in the qualification.

·               The Co-generation Operations strand is no longer offered in the qualification.

·               The Geothermal Operations strand was added to the qualification.

·               The domain previously titled Electricity Generation is now titled Electricity Supply - Thermal Operations and Control.

·               The Thermal Operations strand elective now requires a minimum of 12 credits.

·               The Combined Cycle Operations strand elective now requires a minimum of 12 credits.

 

Transition

 

All existing candidates may complete version 1 of the qualification by December 2010, or transfer their existing achievements to version 2.

 

Appeals

 

It is anticipated that no existing candidates are disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However, candidates may appeal in the first instance to the Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation, which will consider any appeal on a case-by-case basis.
