Revision of Textiles Manufacture qualifications

National Certificate in Textiles Manufacture (Advance Operations) (Level 3) with strands in Textile Processing and Textile Testing [Ref: 1122]
The Apparel and Textile Industry Training Organisation has revised the qualifications listed above.
Date new versions published August 2006
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2008.
Reason for the revision
The domain of Non-Woven Textile Processing was added to the NQF and the SSB wished to include standards from this domain in these qualifications.
Main changes resulting from the revision
There is now a wider range of standards for candidates to choose from when undertaking these qualifications.
National Certificate in Textile Manufacture (Operations) (Level 2) [Ref: 1121]
Changes to structure and content
The following standards have been added to the Elective A section of the qualification:
· Unit 21634, Prepare fibre blend for non-woven production;
· Unit 21635, Produce bonded non-woven product from batting;
· Unit 21636, Produce carded batting for non-woven production.
Transition
People currently enrolled in programmes leading towards the award of version 1 of this qualification may either complete that version, or transfer to version 2. The last date for entry to training programmes or courses leading to the award of version 1 is 31 December 2006.
National Certificate in Textiles Manufacture (Advanced Operations) (Level 3) with strands in Textile Processing and Textile Testing [Ref: 1122]
Changes to structure and content
The following standards have been added to the Textile Processing strand of the qualification:
· Unit 22168, Describe the process of and produce carded batting for mechanically needled products;
· Unit 22173, Describe the process of and produce stentered non-woven textiles with or without latex;
· Unit 22169, Describe the processes and machinery used and carry out mechanical needling operation from batts;
· Unit 22171, Describe the processes and machinery used and structure rib operations for non-woven textiles;
· Unit 22170, Describe the processes and machinery used and structure velour operations for non-woven textiles;
· Unit 22167, Prepare fibre blend for mechanically needled production;
· Unit 22172, Describe the processes and machinery used and structure rib-patterning for non-woven textiles.

People currently enrolled in programmes leading towards the award of version 1 of this qualification may either complete that version, or transfer to version 2. The last date for entry to training programmes or courses leading to the award of version 1 is 31 December 2006.
The Apparel and Textile Industry Training Organisation (ATITO) does not intend that any existing candidate be disadvantaged by this review. However, any candidate who feels that they have been disadvantaged by the transition should contact ATITO at the address below.
