The Printing & Allied Industries Training Council (PAITC), now trading as PrintNZ Training, has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                        December 2006

Planned review date                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards were reviewed as they had a planned expiry date of December 2006.

A group of industry representatives and members of PAITC met in July 2006 to discuss the changes required to the unit standards as well as to all other aspects of the Paperboard Packaging (Carton) training programmes.

It was agreed that the Paperboard Packaging (Carton) unit standards be moved to the Carton Converting domain.

The group was asked to consider the following.

·          The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for the qualifications

·          The accuracy and appropriateness of their content

·          Whether the levels and credits corresponded to performance outcomes

·          Whether there were any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards.

Most of the unit standards were found to be satisfactory but there were some areas that required additional knowledge and skills.

Main changes resulting from the review

·          Unit standards in the Paperboard Packaging (Carton) domain have been reclassified in the Carton Converting domain.

·          Titles of all Paperboard Packaging (Carton) unit standards have changed to reflect the change of domain, and in addition the titles of unit standards 3679, 3680, and 18244 have been changed to reflect the skills covered.

·          Unit standard 3675 has been replaced by new unit standard 23445.

·          Level of unit standard 3680 has changed from 3 to 4.

·          Credits for unit standards 3679, 3690, 18244, 18245, and 10915 have changed.

·          Changes have been made to the entry requirements for all unit standards.

·          Elements, performance criteria, and range statements have been changed in most unit standards to improve assessability and for consistency of style.

·          Two new unit standards, 23446 and 23447, were developed.

Unit standard 3675, categorised as category C, expires at the end of December 2008.
