Expiry date of new versions of the unit standards                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards were due for review.  Feedback sought from users and other stakeholders clearly indicated that there were no problems with them and they required no changes to level, credit (except for unit standard 13225), or the basic content.  They agreed that the unit standards ought to undergo technical revision to ensure they met current NZQA criteria for registration.

The unit standards were evaluated on that basis, changes were made where required, and the drafts were circulated to, and endorsed by, users and other stakeholders.

This review is the first stage of an overall review of unit standards in the Compliance and Regulatory Control domain.  These standards were selected because they form part of LGITO qualifications that are to be registered in the near future.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Eleven unit standards have had their titles changed to reflect more accurately their overall outcome and to ensure consistency with the domain Compliance and Regulatory Control.  Refer to the table at the end of this report for changes.

·        Unit standard 13225 has had its credits increased from 5 to 7.

·        Purpose statements have been updated in terms of style and to reflect the elements.

·        Special notes have been updated in terms of consistency of style across the batch and, where required, to improve their clarity and currency.  Element ranges have been added to special notes for unit standards 4238 and 11283.

·        Elements 1 and 2 have been combined in unit standard 4228.

·        Elements, performance criteria, and their ranges have been amended, where required, to improve clarity and consistency within the unit standard and in terms of consistency of style across the batch.  In some cases changes were required to ensure outcomes could be attributed fairly to the candidate, rather than depending on factors beyond the candidate's control.
