Review of Printing - Graphic Communication qualification

 

National Certificate in Printing - Graphic Communication (Level 4) [Ref: 0817]

 

The Printing & Allied Industries Training Council (PAITC) has completed the review of the above qualification that was registered in February 2001.

The qualification was reviewed following a review of industry requirements for the Printing - Graphic Communication sector, which included a full review of unit standards as well as the existing training programmes.

 

Meetings were convened throughout 2005 and involved PAITC members, industry representatives and providers.  As a result the unit standards in the Printing - Graphic Communication domain and the qualification have been altered to reflect changes in technology and to align them with current business practices.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The review process has resulted in the following changes to the qualification.

 

Changes to structure and content

·        Unit standard 2780 has been removed

·        Unit standards 2281, 17927, 20057 and 20099 have been added

·        Credit total has increased from 164 to 202.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 4 of the qualification.  People currently enrolled in programmes leading to version 3 may either complete that version or transfer to version 4 under the guidance of the PAITC.  The last date for award of version 3 of the qualification is December 2007.

 

This qualification contains standards that are replacements of earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
