The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                        July 2006

Planned review date                        December 2009

Summary of review and consultation process

The review of these standards was undertaken because feedback and the moderation process had identified that there were a number of areas where amendments were required.  The standards had been in use extensively within the Cook Islands secondary schools.  Changes were required to make the standards relevant to addressing the needs of a visitor to the Cook Islands and to ensure that they were assessable.

An expert panel including Cook Islands secondary school teachers and a representative of the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation met in the Cook Islands in early 2004 to discuss the standards.  Drafts of the amended standards were circulated through this panel.  Following agreement by the panel, the standards were been signed off by the Cook Islands Ministry of Education and the ATTTO Tourism Training Council.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        The content of unit standard 16879, Demonstrate knowledge of the tourism industry in the Cook Islands is adequately covered by unit standard 16875 and is referred to in unit standards 16880 and 16884; therefore this standard has been designated as expiring.

·        The credit values of unit standards 16875, 16876, 16877, 16878, and 16884 have increased to better reflect their content and the time required for assessment.

·        The level of unit standard 16878 has been increased from 1 to 2 to more accurately reflect the learning demand required.

·        The titles of unit standards 16876, 16878, and 16884 have been amended to better reflect their outcomes.

Unit standard 16879 categorised as category D expires at the end of December 2007.
