Revision of Equine qualification
National Certificate in Equine (Level 4) with strands in Breeding, Harness Racing, Sporthorse, and Thoroughbred Racing [Ref: 0216]
The Equine ITO has revised the qualification listed above.
Date new version published July 2006
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2008.
Reason for the revision
This qualification was revised and issued as version 4 in July 2006 due to the decision made by Harness Racing New Zealand to no longer allow unlicensed trainees to drive horses on race day. Unlicensed candidates could therefore no longer achieve credit for unit standard 1599, and were unable to complete the requirements of the Harness Racing strand of the qualification.
The opportunity was also taken to update the credits available at level 3 in Core Elective 2, to reflect the increased credit assigned to version 4 of unit standard 6611.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Changes to structure and content
· Unit standard 1599 has been removed from the Harness Racing strand of the qualification.
· Credits available at level 3 in Core Elective 2 increased from 15 to 17.
