Date new versions published                        July 2006

Planned review date                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

Meetings involving the ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) in conjunction with the Security Industry Training Advisory Board (SITAB) were held between 2003 and 2005, to review the National Certificate in Security (Level 3) with strands in Mobile Patrol, Personal Protection, Retail Security, Secure Transport, Site Security, and Venue Security [Ref: 0227] and the related unit standards to ensure that the unit standards were fit for purpose.  This was the final group of unit standards relating to this qualification.  Feedback from industry, training providers, workplace assessment, and moderation was incorporated, as were changes relating to industry terminology, standards, systems, and documentation.  This resulted in the unit standards being amended.  Also, some new unit standards were developed.  Consultation also included a broad group of industry and training provider stakeholders, moderators, and assessors.

The consultation groups were asked to consider the following:

·        The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and future qualifications.

·        The appropriateness of unit standards to their domain.

·        The accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

·        Whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and training needs.

·        Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards.

·        The assessability of the unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

·        These unit standards have had the special notes updated, references to security guard changed to security officer, and other changes to bring them up to date.

·        The level of unit standard 6524 was raised from 3 to 4 and the credit value was increased from 15 to 20, to reflect the increased knowledge and skill requirements which include technology and risk management as well as the requirement for officers to operate with increased independence.

·        The title of unit standard 6525 was changed to Maintain event security, to better reflect the focus of this unit standard.

·        The level of unit standard 6528 was raised from 3 to 4 and the credit value was increased from 15 to 20, to reflect the increased knowledge and skill requirements which include technology and risk management as well as the requirement for officers to operate with increased independence.

·        Three new unit standards were developed for security officers involved in control and restraint, noise control, and court security.
