The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in March 2000.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review took place because the unit standards had passed their anticipated review dates, and feedback from industry had indicated that changes were required to their content, to meet the current industry requirements.

 

The consultation process commenced with a series of individual interviews throughout New Zealand with livestock companies and rural servicing businesses including PGG Wrightson, CRT, RD1, Farmlands, and Taranaki Farmers.  Interviews were carried out by the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation in conjunction with an independent human resource consultancy organisation to identify future industry trends, and current and future industry training requirements.

 

Consultation included interviews followed by meetings with representatives from the above industry sectors as well as training providers to discuss findings and to confirm industry needs for training.

 

Unit standards were amended taking feedback from individual interviews and from industry meetings into consideration.  Updated unit standards were distributed to the wider rural servicing industry for suggestions and feedback.

 

Feedback was incorporated and final drafts of the unit standards were endorsed by a representative of the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation Services to the Agriculture Industry Committee.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Minor changes have been made to unit standards to meet current registration criteria.

·        Credits for unit standard 17336 have decreased to more accurately reflect the time taken to learn, practice, and be assessed for the outcomes in the unit standard.

·        The levels for unit standards 17332 and 17336 have increased, and for unit standards 9114, 17338, and 17343 have decreased, to more accurately accord with the level descriptors.

·        Unit standards 17333 and 17334, and 17341 and 17342 have been replaced by unit standards 22806 and 22808 respectively.

·        An element has been deleted from unit standard 17332.

 

Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2007.

 

Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

 

Unit standards in domains Grain, Seeds, and Crops and Livestock Business have moved from AMAP 0132 to AMAP 0052.  AMAP 0052 has been updated to reflect the changes made to the unit standards.
