Responsibility for the unit standards and qualification referred to above has been transferred from the Public Sector Training Organisation (PSTO) to the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation (NZITO).

Date new versions published                                                                   June 2006

Rationale for the change

Agreement has been reached between PSTO and NZITO that the area of meat inspection fits within NZITO’s coverage area.  This has resulted from de-regulation of the meat inspection area, where the service of meat inspection will become contestable rather than be covered by a Government Department or State Owned Enterprise (SOE), as has been the previous practice.

Outline of main changes

            Qualification

The qualification has been amended to show NZITO’s responsibility and reflect the new qualification format, maintained to take account of the revision and rollover of the Meat Inspection Services unit standards, and published as a new version.

The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2007.

            Unit standards

The unit standards have been amended to show NZITO’s responsibility and published as new versions.

NZITO has decided that the unit standards should have their period of registration extended.  The reason for the rollover is to maintain the currency of the unit standards until they have been reviewed.  The opportunity was taken to revise all of these unit standards in order to reflect current legislation, update references, and make minor editorial amendments.

The review of these unit standards is planned to take place during 2007.

Accreditation and Moderation Action Plans [Ref: 0121] and [Ref: 0033]

The unit standards have been transferred from Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) 0121 to AMAP 0033.

NZITO has revised AMAP 0033 to reflect the new AMAP format and changes to the moderation system resulting from inclusion of unit standards in the Meat Inspection Services subfield.

The review of this AMAP is planned to take place during 2007.

Compliance with new requirements

Moderation system requirements will apply with effect from January 2007.

Accredited organisations will be audited for compliance with AMAP requirements from January 2007 onwards.

Main changes resulting from the revision

Version 1 replaced by version 2

MODERATION INFORMATION (MI)

Moderation System

·           Amended to reflect removal of inter-assessor moderation and inclusion of specific documentation requirements for national external moderation.

Impact on existing accreditations

NZITO has had its accreditation extended to include the Meat Inspection Services subfield to Level 7.
