Competenz has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were first registered in September 1994.

Date new versions published                                                 June 2006

Planned review date                                                                  December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

All of the unit standards in the three domains were reviewed together in preparation for a major review of Mechanical Engineering qualifications during 2006.

Account was taken of all comments received from the industry, assessors, and advisory groups and reviewed in April 2005 by an expert panel.  Edited unit standards were distributed to all known assessors, providers, and industry advisory groups and endorsed for registration in February 2006.

Main changes resulting from the review

·               Special notes have been improved and style harmonised with other unit standards recently registered or under review in the Mechanical Engineering subfield.

·               Range statements, definitions, and other assessment parameters have been improved.

·               Prerequisites have been updated.

·               Some titles have been amended to better convey overall outcomes and relation to other unit standards.

·               Elements and performance criteria have been harmonised across related unit standards.

·               Unit standards 2389 and 2393 have been designated expiring, as they are no longer relevant to industry.

·               Unit standard 2388 has been replaced by unit standards 22913 and 22914 to better reflect the requirements of the industry.

·               Unit standards 2392 and 2394 have been replaced by unit standard 22915 at Level 5 to better reflect the requirements of the industry.

·               Unit standard 2390 has been raised to Level 4, with the credit value reduced to 10.

·               Unit standard 2391 credit value has been reduced to 10.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2010.
