Revision of Telecommunications qualification
National Certificate in Telecommunications (Level 3) with strands in Bearer and Switch, Building and Data Cabling, Customer Access Network, Customer Premises Equipment, Information and Communications Technology, and Radio [Ref: 0767]
The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) has revised the above qualification to broaden the scope and improve flexibility for candidates.
Date new version published June 2006
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2009.
Reason for the revision
In discussion with the Telecommunication Education and Skills Standards Organisation (TESSO), the qualification has been revised to make it more flexible. A Core Elective set has been added; standards that are not strand specific have been moved to the Core Elective set and additional standards included; and an expired standard has been replaced.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Changes to structure and content
· A Core Elective set has been added to the qualification
· Standards 2781, 7064, and 7065 have been moved from strand requirements to the Core Elective set to improve qualification flexibility
· Standards 2780, 3465, 5627, 10507, 10509, and 18276 have been included in the Core Elective set
· Standard 12299, which was in the Customer Access Network Strand, has been removed because it has been designated expiring (its replacement has not been included in the qualification). An alternative standard, 17459, has been included in the Core Elective set
· The qualification credit totals changed from 76-101 to 75-100.
