Summary of review and consultation process
Main changes resulting from the review
The structure of the National Diploma in Hospitality Management (Level 5) [Ref: 0769] has been amended in order to make the management emphasis of the qualification more transparent.
The purpose and credit requirements of the National Diploma in Hospitality (Business Management) (Level 5) [Ref: 0883] have been amended to emphasise a general business management skill set. Listed unit standards have been replaced by elective sets allowing credits from relevant subfields and domains; small business management unit standards have been removed; and level 5 credit requirements have been increased.
A new national diploma, for people with prior experience in hospitality operations and who wish to acquire the knowledge and skills to manage a business unit within a large enterprise, has been developed:
· National Diploma in Hospitality (Operational Management) (Level 5) with strands in Kitchen Management, Food and Beverage Management, and Rooms Division Management [Ref: 1245]

Changes to structure and content
· Special notes added.
· Purpose statement updated.
· The unit standards in the Hospitality Management section and unit standards 167, 4646, and 16705 from the Hospitality Operations Compulsory section were combined in a revised Compulsory section in order to make the management emphasis of the qualification more transparent.
· Listed unit standards have been replaced by elective sets allowing credits from relevant subfields and domains.
· A new elective requirement included for 60 level 4 or above credits from the Business field or Communication Skills subfield (Elective 4).
· Requirement that all elective credits be at Level 3 or above.
· Unit standard 13342 removed from the qualification.
· Elective credit requirements increased from 116 credits to 163 credits.
· Prerequisite diagram deleted.
· Credit transfer arrangements updated.
· Title changed.
Transition
People currently working towards version 2 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to version 3 of the qualification.
The last date to complete version 2 is 31 December 2010.

· Credit total reduced from 200 to 120 credits.
· Level 5 credit requirements have increased from 72 to 116.
· Purpose statement updated.
· Reviewed standards updated.
· Elective section divided into two.
· Listed unit standards have been replaced by elective sets allowing credits from relevant subfields and domains.
· Unit standards 1983, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 6404, 6406, 6407, 6408, 6409, 6410, 6412, 7114, 7447, 7450, 7452, 7454, 7455, 7456, 7458, 8085, 8493, 8494, 8495, 8496, 8499, 8503, 9675, 9676, 9678, 9682, 9691, 9692, 9695, 9696, 9704, 9734, 9737, 11097, 11099, 11101, 11824, 11830, 11994, 15189, 15190, 15275, 16342, 16611, 16612, 16614, 16616, 17548, 17552,18336 and 18337 are no longer listed in the qualification. The unit standards in bold cannot be used to meet the requirements of version 2.

Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may choose to either transfer the credits already attained towards version 2 of the qualification or complete the requirements of version 1.
The last date for award of version 1 is 31 December 2010.
Appeals
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Hospitality Standards Institute.
