Reinstatement and revision of Furniture Finishing qualifications
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 2) [Ref: 0790]
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 3) [Ref: 1180]
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 4) [Ref: 1181]
The NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation has revised and reinstated the qualifications listed above that were registered in August 2005 and withdrawn from the NQF in November 2005.
Date reinstated and new versions published March 2006
Reason for the revision
Version 1 of the National Certificates in Furniture Finishing (Level 3 and Level 4) and version 2 of the National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 2) were withdrawn from the NQF in order to address required corrections and to finalise consultation with industry. Those versions of the qualifications will not be awarded.
The National Certificates in Furniture Finishing at levels 2 and 4 required correction as the qualifications had inadvertently been registered with insufficient credits required by the rules to meet the national certificate definition (40 credits at or above the level of registration). The opportunity was taken to amend details in the listings, and to replace the NZSCED in the classification tables.
The ITO has not signed trainees to the withdrawn versions of the qualifications, so no transition arrangements are necessary.
All new trainees entering the furniture finishing industry will work towards the new versions of the qualifications.
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 2) [Ref: 0790]
Version 3 was issued following further consultation and confirmation that it meets the needs of industry. The minimum credit requirements have been amended.
Summary of differences between version 2 and version 3
· Minimum number of elective credits at Level 2 or above was increased from 10 to 14.
· Credit range table updated.
· Title of standard 334 updated.
· NZSCED classification corrected.
There are no transition arrangements between version 2 and version 3 of the qualification.
Any trainees enrolled in programmes leading to version 1 of the qualification may complete that version or transfer to version 3. The last date for award of version 1 is December 2006.
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 3) [Ref: 1180]
Version 2 was issued following further consultation and confirmation that it meets the needs of industry. The NZSCED classification was corrected and the title of standard 334 was updated. There are no transition implications as a result of these changes.
National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 4) [Ref: 1181]
Version 2 was issued following further consultation and confirmation that it meets the needs of industry. The minimum credit requirements have been amended.
Summary of differences between version 1 and version 2
· Credit values for standards 2202 and 2203 were updated.
· Minimum credits for the elective were increased from 12 to 19, of which 17 must be at Level 4 or above.
· Credit range table updated.
· Classifications and titles of standards updated.
· NZSCED classification corrected.
There are no transition arrangements between version 1 and version 2 of the qualification. However, as this is a replacement qualification the transition arrangements published in August 2005 are still applicable. All trainees engaged on a programme leading to the award of the replaced National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 4) [Ref: 0092] can either complete that qualification or choose to transfer to either this qualification or the National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 3) [Ref: 1180]. The last date for the award of the National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 4) [Ref: 0092] is 31 December 2006.
