The New Zealand Sports Turf Industry Training Organisation (NZSTITO) has reviewed the unit standards listed above, which were registered in June 1995.

Summary of review and consultation process
The NZSTITO consulted widely on the review of these unit standards. In particular, consultation involved discussions with training providers, industry sector representatives, former graduates of the National Diplomas in Sports Turf Management (Levels 6 and 7) [Refs: 0204 and 0205], and other interested ITOs.
The unit standards were reviewed to make them more relevant to the current needs of managers of sports turf facilities. There was also a need to more clearly define the outcomes expected of learners and to provide more guidance on the requirements learners are to meet with material to be developed and presented for assessment. The new unit standards have replaced unit standards that no longer had the focus or emphasis required by the sports turf industry.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Special notes have been added to all unit standards to define terminology and to give clearer direction to learners and assessors.
· Range statements have been reviewed and extended to allow some flexibility to accommodate requirements of different sports turf business activities.
· Performance criteria have been rewritten to clarify meaning and more clearly define expected performance standards.
· Some unit standard titles and elements have been changed to better reflect the requirements of current management practices in the sports turf industry.
· Unit standards 4272, 4277, 4278, 4280, and 4281 have had their credit value reduced to better reflect the work required and to align with similar unit standards on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
· Unit standard 4280 has had its level reduced from Level 7 to Level 6.
· Unit standards 4269, 4271, 4275, and 4279 have been replaced by new unit standards 21446, 21447, 21450, and 21451 respectively.
· Unit standard 4276 has been designated as expiring as it no longer meets industry needs.
· Unit standards 4267, 4268 and 4273, 4274 have been designated as expiring.

Transition arrangements
The changes made to the credit value of the standards reduce the total credits available in the sports turf subfield at level 6 and 7. This means that there will no longer be sufficient credits available to meet the requirements of the two registered Diplomas in Sports Turf Management. Therefore, it is anticipated that the National Diploma in Sports Turf Management (Level 7) [Ref: 0205] will be designated expiring so all sports turf unit standards at Levels 6 and 7 will be available to contribute to the National Diploma in Sports Turf Management at Level 6 [Ref: 0204].
It is also anticipated that for the purposes of qualification award, arrangements will be put in place to ensure that the credits previously available for unit standards 4267, 4268, and 4273 will still be available via a credit transfer arrangement with Massey University.
Candidates currently studying towards a National Diploma in Sports Turf Management will be advised of the changes to the unit standards and the implications for their studies.
Any version of a unit standard which retains its original number and is listed in the qualification document will continue to meet qualification requirements however, the credits awarded towards a qualification will be determined by the credit value specified in the version of the qualification towards which the candidate is studying.
It is intended that for the purpose of qualification award, people who have gained credit for the following units standards will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement unit standard.
