The Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in May 2001, and June 2001.

These qualifications were reviewed following the review of the Snowsport and Outdoor Recreation unit standards and to ensure that the qualifications meet current industry practice and the snowsport industries labour market needs. The qualifications were reviewed by specific focus groups in 2004-2005, with input from employers, supervisors, trainees, providers, the Retail Industry Training Organisation, and assessors.
Sfrito also carried out consultation with small and large snowsport areas from the different regions within New Zealand.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following changes to the qualifications.
National Certificate in Snowsport (Snowsport Equipment) (Level 2) with strands in Retail (Clothing), Retail (Hardware), Introductory Mechanics, and Rental [Ref: 0440]
National Certificate in Snowsport Equipment [Ref: 0440]
This qualification has been reviewed and the stranded structure replaced by a more flexible elective structure.
Changes to structure and content
· Credit total decreased from 50 to 43 credits.
· The Retail (Clothing), Retail (Hardware), Introductory Mechanics, and Rental strands have been replaced by this generic qualification with elective sets to allow for specialisation.
· The level has been removed from the title.
· Standards 8638, 9681, 10791, 11817, 11941, 18097, 18135, 21740, 21911, and 21912 have been added to elective B.
Changes to the Retail (Clothing) Strand
· Standards 1304 and 11097 moved from the strand compulsory to the compulsory section.
· Standard 13376 moved from strand compulsory to elective A.
· Standards 403, 1277 and 11831 moved from strand compulsory to elective B.
· Standards 58 and 64 from strand compulsory removed from qualification.
· Standard 18100 moved from the strand elective to elective B.
· Standards 435 and 11958, and the specified domains within the Communication Skills, Retail and Wholesale, and Service Sector Skills subfields listed in the strand elective removed from the qualification and replaced by specific standards in elective B.
Changes to the Retail (Hardware) Strand
· Standards 1304 and 11097 moved from the strand compulsory to the compulsory section.
· Standard 13383 moved from strand compulsory to elective A.
· Standards 403, 1277 and 11831 moved from strand compulsory to elective B.
· Standards 58 and 64 from strand compulsory removed from qualification.
· Standard 18100 moved from the strand elective to elective B.
· Standards 435 and 11958, and the specified domains within the Communication Skills, Retail and Wholesale, and Service Sector Skills subfields listed in the strand elective removed from the qualification and replaced by specific standards in elective B.
Changes to the Introductory Mechanics Strand
· Standards 4568, 13383, 18130, and 18131 moved from strand compulsory to elective A.
· Standard 2397 moved from strand compulsory to elective B.
· Standard 2395 from strand compulsory removed from qualification.
· Standards 435 and 4575 and the Interpersonal Communications domain from the strand elective removed from the qualification and replaced by specific standards in elective B.
· Standard 18137 moved from the strand elective to elective A.
· Standards 4574, 18100 and 18138 moved from the strand elective to elective B.
Changes to the Rental Strand
· Standards 1304 and 11097 moved from the strand compulsory to the compulsory section.
· Standards 4568, 4572 and 18130 moved from strand compulsory to elective A.
· Standard 1277 moved from strand compulsory to elective B.
· Standard 125 from the strand compulsory removed from the qualification.
· Standards 435, 4575, 4577, 4586 and 18132 from strand elective removed from qualification.
· Interpersonal Communications, Selling Skills, Service Sector – Core Skills, Service Sector Skills, and Outdoor Equipment domains in the strand elective removed and replaced by specific standards in elective B.
· Standard 18137 moved from the strand elective to elective A.
· Standards 4574, 18100, 18134, and 18138 moved from the strand elective to elective B.
Transition
People currently working towards the former qualification may either complete the requirements for that qualification or transfer their results to this qualification. The last date for award of the former qualification is 31 December 2008.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

· Structure changed from compulsory and balance to compulsory and elective.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for people to complete version 1 is 31 December 2008.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard.

This qualification will expire and will not be replaced. Sfrito is not aware of anyone working towards the expiring qualification. People wishing to complete a qualification in the retailing of snowsport equipment can transfer their results to the National Certificate in Snowsport Equipment [Ref: 0440].
The last date for the award of the qualification is 31 December 2008.
Appeals
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation at the address below.
