Review of Dairy Farming unit standards 7411 and 17467

The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in April 2000.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review was carried out because unit standards were approaching their anticipated expiry date, and because changes were required to unit standards to reflect changes in industry practices.

 

Meetings were convened with representatives from the organisations involved with artificial insemination, and industry training advisors to clarify current industry requirements.  Unit standards were checked during this process to determine whether they reflected industry requirements, and changes were made as required.  Unit standards 17467 and 7411 require the same level of technical knowledge, skills, and accuracy.  The level of 17467 was therefore increased to be consistent with 7411 and more closely match the levels descriptor.

 

The credit value assigned to 17467 was also considered and increased to reflect the time taken to practice the skill, achieve competency, and to be assessed.

 

Draft unit standards were sent out for wider consultation and feedback was discussed with all interested stakeholders and incorporated.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        The special note defining the site rate and level of accuracy has been amended.

·        Legislation has been updated.

·        The level for unit standard 17467 has increased from 3 to 4, and the credit value from 20 to 25.
