Summary of review and consultation process
The review of these unit standards commenced in late 2002 with the first in a series of meetings held between Competenz and industry representatives. The review was primarily to ensure that the unit standards met current industry needs. A full consultation process was arranged to review the unit standards and collate feedback received.
The review process was used to ensure the currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications. In particular, that titles matched the overall expected outcome of the unit standards, that content was accurate and appropriate, and that levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.
· Improved special notes that better convey assessment parameters, including improved definitions, updated references to legislation, and number of occasions/items required to show competence.
· Improved and updated range statements, including clearer use of range statements that (1) are mandatory, or (2) have the range stem may include but is not limited to.
· Titles amended to better convey the performance expectation of the unit standards, with element titles similarly altered in many instances to ensure parity with the unit title.
· The addition of an opening element in the practical unit standards covering safe working practices.
· Sundry editorial changes to performance criteria.
· Amendments to level to better reflect the level of judgement required by the candidate, extent of supervision, and overall learning demand.
· Amendments to credit to ensure the time allowed is appropriate for learning, practice, and assessment with respect to the outcomes and contexts of the unit standards.
