Planned review date                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

The standards listed above in the subfield of Māori Performing Artshave been reviewed as a part of the Māori Qualifications Services review cycle.

The main purpose of the review was to see that the standards were fit for purpose and applicable in relation to current issues.

It was decided to review both the standards and the corresponding assessment guide materials at the same time, as the review of the standards would have implications for the assessment guides.

A Whakaruruhau Hui was held in Wellington from the 17 to the 21 of October 2005, and standards in the domains of New Māori Music and New Māori Dance were reviewed.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Ten New Māori Dance standards were reduced to four, and ten New Māori Music standards were reduced to six.

·         Standards 1871, 18717, 19726, and 19727were designated expiring.

·         Due to similarities in content, the following standards were amalgamated into single standards: 18718 and 18719; 18722 and 18723; 19724 and 19725; 19728 and 19729; 19731 and 19732; and 19730 and 19733.

·         Changes have been made to titles, elements, and purpose statements to clarify requirements.

·         Definitions have been added to special notes where needed.

·         Range statements have been moved to the special notes in some of the unit standards, to avoid repetition.

·         In some cases, performance criteria were amended or deleted from standards to ensure assessment of the student performance as a whole, rather than aspect assessment.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2009.
