Review of Dairy Manufacturing qualifications

· National Certificate in Dairy Manufacturing (Level 3) with optional strands in People Skills, and Computing Skills [Ref: 0027]
The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in January and March 1994.

These qualifications have been reviewed as a result of the review of existing standards and the development of new standards in the dairy manufacturing area. Industry has been extensively consulted on the review of both the standards and the qualifications, which has resulted in these qualifications being restructured to better suit industry's requirements and job roles.
Main changes resulting from the review
The credit value of the qualifications have been amended, standards have been added and removed throughout the qualifications, amendments have been made to qualification requirements, and strands have been added and removed in both of the qualifications as outlined below.

Changes to structure and content
· The two core elective sections have been reduced to one, with some standards moving to the Product Skills strand.
· The title has been changed to reflect the changes in the strands and to add in Technology to reflect the emphasis on Dairy Technology.

Credit level has increased from 40--64 to 46--64 depending on
strand.
· Optional standards section has been deleted.
· Standards 762, 763 and 16302 deleted from the core elective section.
· Standards 19336, 19529, 21114, 21126, and 22347 added to the core elective section.
· Standard 767 replaced by 21801 and 21802.
· People Skills and Computing Skills strands deleted.
· Process Improvement strand added.
· Process Testing strand added.
· Product Skills strand added (previously core elective 2).
· Product Safety optional strand renamed Food Safety, and standards 19514 and 18406 deleted, and standards 4826, 4829, 19332, 19333 and 18407 added.
· Qualification updated to take account of reviewed standards.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

Changes to structure and content
· The title has been changed to reflect the changes in the strands and to add in Technology.
· Credit total increased from 40 (or 60-64 depending on optional strand) to 60 (or 84 with optional strand).
· Core Elective 1 has been divided into two and renamed Elective A and Elective B.
· Standards 758, 4308-4313, 4818, 4823, 16313, 17613, 18405, 19335, 19526, and 19529 have been deleted from Core Elective 1 as they are no longer relevant; and 17597, 18407, 19332, 19333, and 19334 have been added.
· Core Elective 2 has been renamed Elective C; Food and Related Products Processing subfield has been deleted; Dairy Manufacturing subfield has been extended to include any domain; and standard 20368 moved to Elective B. Standards 10851, 10852, and 18496 have been deleted.
· Optional strand in People Skills has been deleted, including standards 4098, 18203 and 19336.
· Optional strand in Computing Skills has been deleted.
· Optional strand in Process Improvement has been added.
· Reviewed standards have been updated.
This qualification contains standards that are replacements of earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standard will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard.

Transition
People currently working towards version 5 of these qualifications may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to the new version of the qualification. The last date for award of version 5 is 31 December 2008.
