Review of Electricity Supply qualification

 

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Network Operator) (Level 4) [Ref: 0892]

 

The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has completed a review of the certificate listed above that was first registered in 2001.

Summary of review and consultation

 

The above qualification was reviewed as part of a larger review and reclassification of the Electricity Supply subfield.  An industry steering group consisting of network owners, training providers, contractors and employees, reviewed the qualification in July 2005.  Changes were recommended to better reflect industry needs for achievable qualifications that supported learning and progression.

 

As a result of the review, the new version of this qualification was developed to meet the changing needs of the electricity supply industry.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

This qualification was reviewed and issued as version 2 in order toinclude unit standards fundamental for those working in the electricity supply industry.  The review provided an opportunity to update the qualification as follows:

·        Editorial and formatting amendments made.

·        Qualification aligned with the requirements of the industry.

 

Changes to structure and content

·        The credit requirements have been increased from 100 to 140.

·        The structure of the qualification has been reviewed with the removal of the elective 1 and elective 2 requirements.

·        Unit standards 1983 and 1702 have been removed from the qualification.

·        Unit standards 12390, 14701, 16275, 16276, 16277, 16279, 16282, 16284, 19479, 19480 and 19481 have been added to the compulsory section of the qualification.

·        The titles and credit values of the unit standards have been amended to reflect the current titles as registered.

 

Transition

 

People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification.  The last date for people to complete version 1 is December 2009. 

 

It is anticipated that no existing candidates are disadvantaged by any of these transition arrangements.  However, candidates may appeal in the first instance to Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation, which will consider any appeal on a case-by-case basis. See contact details below.
