Revision of Plastics Processing Technology qualification
National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Level 2) with strands in Injection Moulding, Extrusion, Blow Moulding, Pressure Thermoforming, Vacuum Thermoforming, Blown Film Extrusion, Film Conversion, Injection Stretch Blow Moulding, and Rotational Moulding [Ref: 0394]
The Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation has revised the qualification listed above that was registered in October 2002.
Date new version published May 2006
The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2006.
Reason for the revision
Mechanical Engineering standards 2723, 2824, 4796 and 12299 were reviewed and designated expiring. Their replacement standards have been included in the qualification. The prerequisites specified for these new standards resulted in some restructuring of the qualification. The opportunity was also taken to update the classifications, titles, and credits in the standard listings.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Version 6 was issued following revision.
Changes to structure and content
· Expiring standard 2723 was removed from the Core Compulsory section
· Standards 20611 and 20612 were included in the Core Compulsory section
· Standards 17344 and 17345 were moved from the Core Compulsory section to a new Core Elective section
· Standards 20597 and 20598 (which replaced standard 2723) were included in the Core Elective section
· Expiring standards 2824, 4796, and 12299 replaced by 20799, 21911, 21912, and 21913 (see table below)
· Domain classifications in the Plastics Processing Technology subfield were updated
· Standard titles and credits were updated
· Credit totals were adjusted from 80-109 to 85-114.
Transition
All existing candidates may complete version 5 of this qualification or transfer their existing achievements to version 6. The last date for completing the qualification requirements of version 5 is 31 December 2008.
People who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
