The Retail ITO has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in June 1991, October 1996, March 1999, July 2003, November 2004.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

Many of the reviewed unit standards were old and a number had issues identified in the moderation process, including outdated legislation.  The Retail ITO carried out the initial review internally.  The unit standards were then submitted to regional industry advisory groups, specialists, and SSBs with qualifications affected by this review.  After input and feedback the unit standards were finalised by the Retail ITO.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·          The reviewed Distribution and Service Sector Skills unit standards have been moved into the Retail, Distribution, and Sales subfield and into relevant domains.

·          The titles of some unit standards have been simplified or clarified.

·          Legislation relating to each unit standard has been checked and updated.

·          Definitions have been clarified and brought into line with other reviewed Retail ITO unit standards.

·          Terminology within each unit standard has been brought into line with other reviewed Retail ITO unit standards.

·          Unit standards have been checked for clarity of wording, completeness of coverage, compliance with safety standards and current best practice.  This has resulted in rewording, reordering, clarification of sufficiency requirements, rationalisation of elements, new performance criteria and extension of ranges to ensure the unit standards are applicable in a wider range of situations.

·          Unit standards 65 and 66 have been designated expiring because their outcomes are covered in unit standard 67.

·          Unit standard 11819 is designated expiring because its outcomes are covered in unit standard 379.

·          Unit standard 11820 is designated expiring because its outcomes are covered in unit standard 61.

·          Unit standard 408 is designated expiring because its outcomes are covered in unit standard 11969.

·          The credits for unit standards 410 and 412 have been increased to reflect changes in requirements.

·          The credits for unit standard 15954 have been reduced to reflect reduced sufficiency requirements.

·          Unit standard 19173 has been designated expiring and a new unit standard has been developed that covers application in a wider range of situations.

 

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2008.

Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

 

AMAP 0225 has been updated to reflect the changes made to the standards.

 

All registered unit standards covered by AMAP 0034 have now been transferred to AMAP 0225, and AMAP 0034 has been designated as expiring.
