Review of Seafood Industry Training Organisation AMAP
The Seafood Industry Training Organisation (SITO) has completed the review of the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) above.

The next AMAP review is planned to take place during 2008.
Summary of review and consultation process
The review was undertaken to ensure that current industry requirements are represented in the accreditation and assessment process. Twenty-six organisations encompassing stakeholders from tertiary education organisations, ITOs, SITO contractors, government agencies, and professional educational bodies were invited to comment on the reviewed AMAP.
The seafood industry is increasingly being required to meet stringent regulatory and compliance requirements, which is creating a greater need for quality in training and assessment.
Compliance with new requirements
Accreditation requirements will apply with effect from January 2007.
Moderation system requirements will apply with effect from January 2007.
Accredited organisations will be audited for compliance with AMAP requirements from January 2007 onwards.

ACCREDITATION INFORMATION (AI)
Visit waiver conditions
· Reference to ‘full consultation' removed because this is not required.
Areas of shared responsibility
· Two Memoranda of Understanding are in place and their purpose is explained.
Industry or sector-specific requirements for accreditation
· Emphasised the importance of local industry links.
· Criterion 1 - Emphasised the importance of ensuring the programme meets the needs of all parties to the training - employers, employees, and prospective employees.
· Criterion 2 - Require applicant organisations to be clear who supplies the resources and reports the credits when two accredited organisations are involved in the training.
· Criterion 3 - Provided better guidance of what is expected of tutors in the seafood industry and aligned the requirements with the SITO Assessment Policy. Updated the name change for Maritime New Zealand and added wording to support the Seafood Māori subfield.
· Criterion 4 - Updated the requirements for Seafood Vessel Operations training requirements.
· Criterion 5 - Added a paragraph to support the Tertiary Education Strategy in literacy.
· Criterion 6 - Wording changed to comply with regulation changes and to support the Kaupapa Mātaitai and Kaupapa Tangaroa domains.
· Criterion 7 - Made reference to the Assessment Policy and SITO assessment resources for its unit standards. These are available on the ITO website http://www.sito.co.nz/ and recommended for use.
MODERATION INFORMATION (MI)
Moderation System
· Completely revised the moderation system and detailed SITO's policy, selection, and post-assessment processes.
Reporting
· Outlined changes in the reporting process in line with the revised moderation system.

· Clarified the wording.
