The NZ Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published October 2006
Planned review date December 2011
Summary of review and consultation process
The review of these seventeen unit standards was initiated because they were approaching their anticipated expiry date of December 2006. The opportunity was taken to update the unit standards to take account of legislation and industry changes, and to make the unit standard structures and wording easier for the wide range of users to understand, implement and assess fairly.
Three stakeholder groups consisting of representatives from AA Driving Education Foundation, AA Driver Training, Land Transport New Zealand, and New Zealand Institute of Driving Instructors and a broad range of training providers, were established to consider all the unit standards independently. The groups were asked to look specifically at changing elements and performance criteria to reflect current and best practice and bring them up to date with the legislative framework. The unit standards, and details of their review, were placed on our website for consultation with assessors. An announcement of the review was placed in our Centreline newsletter to ensure all assessors were notified and given equal opportunity to comment and provide feedback.
Main changes resulting from the review
· The formatting, definitions, range statements and special notes have been standardised and updated so the reviewed unit standards are consistent with each other.
· The wording and the order of the special notes of the unit standards have been standardised. Legislation has been added and updated as appropriate, and definitions have been deleted and added according to the content of the unit standards.
· The definition for a Light Motor Vehicle has been updated to reflect the latest legislation changes, and the title ‘Land Transport Safety Authority' has been updated to ‘Land Transport New Zealand'.
· Minor word amendments have been made to clarify different parts of the unit standards, to make the statements clearer for the users.
· Credits for unit standard 1734 have decreased from 4 to 3 to reflect the reduced number of examples and tasks required.
· Credits for unit standards 3464, 3465, and 17563 have increased from 2 to 3, and those for unit standard 3467 have increased from 3 to 4.
· The level of unit standards 3462, 3465, and 3467 has increased from 1 to 2 to better reflect the outcomes of the standards.
· Changes have been made to the titles of unit standards 3465, 3466, and 17676 to more accurately reflect the content of the unit standards.
