Summary of review and consultation process

A meeting of the Māori Environmental Management Whakaruruhau was held on 4 May 2005 to scope the requirements for a National Certificate in this area. While developing the qualification the unit standards were examined and the need for a review of the unit standards agreed. A further meeting was held on 27 June 2005 to examine the unit standards and make amendments to the levels, credits, special notes, elements, and performance criteria where required.

The composition of Whakaruruhau included both practitioners and providers who considered that the levels and credits on some of the unit standards did not reflect the level of research required by the content. Consequently, these were changed where required. Initial consultation with the Whakaruruhau members' networks also indicated that the definitions in the unit standards were ambiguous and after discussion these were also changed and brought up to date.

Unit standards 20322-20324 were not included in the proposed National Certificate. Consequently, these unit standards have only had their definitions revised in line with changes to the rest of the unit standards in the batch, and their legislation brought up to date where required. However, further content changes will be considered when a National Diploma is developed in this area.

· Special notes have been amended.

· Performance criteria and elements, as required, have been amended.

· Titles of unit standards 20325-20327 have been amended to better reflect the content of the unit standards.
