The New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training Organisation (NZHITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

NZHITO, in conjunction with the Postharvest/Packhouse advisory group, providers, and other stakeholders, has reviewed the unit standards listed above in the Floriculture, Fruit Production and Vegetable Production domains.  During the development of new unit standards for the postharvest sector NZHITO investigated the need to write unit standards that could be used in all packhouses (fruit, vegetable, and floriculture).  As a result these unit standards have been written generically, and registered in the Production Horticulture domain.

 

In the course of the review, consideration was given to the following:

·        The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications.

·        The accuracy and appropriateness of their content to the postharvest sector.

·        Inclusion of relevant legislation and licensing requirements in updated special notes.

·        Revision of elements, performance criteria and range statements to ensure they were technically correct and up to date.

·        The accuracy of credit values in reflecting the time taken for delivery, learning and assessment.

 

Comments and recommendations from stakeholders were considered through the process of review and consultation, and incorporated as appropriate.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Generic unit standards have been developed to replace Floriculture, Fruit Production, and Vegetable Production domain-specific unit standards.  The generic, replacement unit standards have been classified in the Production Horticulture domain.

·        Unit standards 804, 1784, and 1786 have been replaced by unit standard 23355.

·        Unit standards 807, 1787, and 1789 have been replaced by unit standards 23356, 23357, and 23358.

·        Unit standards 808, 1790, and 1792 have been replaced by unit standard 23360.

·        Unit standard 809 has been reclassified in Production Horticulture domain and its credit value has increased from 3 to 5.

·        Registration of new unit standard 23359.

 

Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2008.
