Review of Locksmithing qualification

Competenz has completed the review of version 2 of the above qualification.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2011.
Summary of review and consultation process
The review of version 2 of the National Certificate in Locksmithing (Level 4) [Ref: 0452] was undertaken by Competenz, with the Locksmith Sector Advisory Group and other key stakeholders within the Locksmith industry. The main reason for the review was to incorporate reviewed unit standards and to keep in line with the latest developments in the industry.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Titles, levels, and credits of unit standards have been updated where necessary.
· Three new unit standards have been added to the qualification.
· Unit standard 12918 has been replaced by two new unit standards 22453 and 22455.
· Elective B has been removed.
· The credit total for this qualification has increased from 223 to 230 credits.
· The level has been taken out of the title.

Changes to structure and content
· Titles, levels, and credits of reviewed unit standards have been updated.
· Engineering Core Skills unit standard 2824 has been replaced by unit standards 21911 and 21912.
· Engineering Materials unit standard 4795 has been replaced by unit standard 20917.
· Carpentry unit standards 13037 and 12998 have been replaced by new unit standard 22451.
· Locksmithing unit standard 12918 has been replaced by two unit standards, 22453 and 22455.
· Unit standard 12919 has been transferred from the elective to the compulsory section of the qualification.
· Unit standard 2629 has been replaced by unit standards 22799 and 22800, which have been transferred to the compulsory section.
· Unit standards 22452 and 22454 have been added to the elective section of the qualification.
· Welding unit standard 2670 has been replaced by unit standard 21907, and unit standards 2679 and 2682 have been removed from the elective section leaving electives from the Welding domain open.
· Electronic unit standard 5936 has been removed and Electrical unit standard 15849 has been added.
· First Aid unit standard 6400 has been added to the elective section of the qualification.
· Service Sector unit standard 58 has been replaced by unit standard 57 in the compulsory section of the qualification.
· Credit total for this qualification has increased from 223 to 230 credits.
· Elective B has been removed from the qualification.
· Level 4 has been taken out of the title of the qualification.
The start date for entry to training programmes or courses leading to the award of version 3 is November 2006.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 or version 2 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for those versions or transfer their results to this version 3. The last date for people to complete version 1 or version 2 is 31 December 2010.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purpose of this qualification people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
